The Opportunity
- Indonesia was looking to enhance their travel management and tourism expertise.
- Educators from across the country were selected through a proposal process where interested applicants were asked to identify their personal goals, institutional targets, and a clear objective.
Our Approach
- Hosted two customized NC Travel Management programs over a six-month period and delivered a third additional six-week customized training program to select participants. These programs were offered by Niagara College’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Sport.
- Engaged participants in the application of Niagara College’s best practices in the tourism industry with a focus on service-learning methodology.
Partner Outcomes and Success
- Learning outcomes from the program helped participants find new ways to engage with students in the classroom by integrating applied learning practices.
- The program led to continued partnerships between NC and participant universities in the polytechnic field in Indonesia. The opportunity also created new partnerships with several Indonesian universities to enhance new curriculum with industry practices.
- Through this collaborative program, NC faculty learned of Indonesian tourism strategies, particularly in the Bali Region.
- The knowledge learned during the Retooling Scholarship program at Niagara College was customized and implemented at the educators’ home institutions in Indonesia to have a real impact on students across the country.
- In addition to learning more about their specific discipline, the educators developed their cultural intelligence, which is an especially powerful skillset in travel management.
