The Opportunity

  • The Caribbean Development Bank funded a project to enhance the Government of Saint Lucia’s gender equality priorities.
  • The Mainstreaming Gender Equality of Saint Lucia’s National Sustainable Development Plan took place in Saint Lucia where Niagara College assisted in the implementation of the vision of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development.
  • The project enhanced the government’s planning and programming processes to systematically address gender equality priorities.

Our Approach

  • Trained on gender budgeting, planning, data management and project evaluation, gender equality concepts and gender-based analysis.
  • Worked with partners to develop gender focal points that informed future policy development, planning and public expenditure.
  • Trained change agents in Saint Lucia to develop a model outlining how the government could move forward in creating gender equality with purpose and intention.
  • Supported the implementation of a Government Capacity Building Plan to integrate gender analysis in public sector planning and budgeting.
  • Worked closely with technical staff in government agencies, educational institutions and civil society organizations in Saint Lucia.
  • Worked with the Government of Saint Lucia to ensure they were responding to the international standards for equality.

Partner Outcomes and Success

  • The project provided training, tools and technical support for leaders and planners with knowledge and skills to practice gender planning aligned with national frameworks and data indicators for gender equality and sustainable development.
  • These tools and results were carried forward in the EnGenDER project that immediately followed.
